Doris Roberts, the Emmy Award-winning actress best known for her performance as Marie Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond has died at the age of 90.
Roberts was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 4, 1925. After numerous roles on the stage and in film, Roberts was cast on the hit TV series Angie in 1979, making her a recognizable celebrity for the first time. In 1983 she joined the cast of Remington Steele, and then in 1996 she appeared as Marie Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond, which was her most recognizable role to date.
In addition to her acting career, Roberts wrote the autobiography Are You Hungry, Dear? Life, Laughs and Lasagna, and in 2002, she testified before Congress about the uproar of age discrimination in Hollywood. Roberts supported animal welfare organizations such as Puppies Behind Bars, and she served as chairwoman of the Children with AIDS Foundation.
Roberts leaves behind one son, Michael Robert Cannata Jr., and thousands of fans that will truly miss the laughs she brought into their homes with her charismatic personality.
